Willie Hutch – In Tune – 1978

Although a key force at Motown during the mid 70s, Willie made a brief trip over to Whitfield Records in 1979 — where he cut this pretty sweet little album with production by Norman Whitfield, and smooth LA arrangements by Gene Page. Like some of the other albums on Whitfield — especially those by Undisputed Truth — the feel of the record is an update of the earlier heavy soul style of some of the Motown groups of the early 70s. Oddly, though, the best cuts are the ballad ones, which show Willie as a great mellow soul singer — perhaps even more so than on some of his guitar-driven Motown sides. Strong titles include “Paradise”, “Anything Is Possible If You Believe In Love”, and “Easy Does It”.Dustygroove- Whitfield, 1978 reccomanded
